
A timeline may be meaningless to those who did not experience it. But we have nothing without the individuals and actions that led us to today's Care & Share. Timelines like this highlight dedication, time, skill, persistence, and the unabashed tenacity of volunteers and community. Here's 1989 to 2012.
C & S Founded; Support from Chamber of Commerce; Financial Support from Golf Tourney "Jammin' Johnny Open." Donations from individuals, churches, businesses, community groups.
Making an impact on the identifiably most-in-need for one-time assistance, C & S creates scholarships for Day Campers and Collegians. Childrens' coats distributed.
C & S extends beyond its established holiday-centric assistance and begins year-round help to families.
Landmark year of growth -- propelled by expanding community need. C & S matures with organizational changes, marked by enacting formal by-laws and electing a non-Founder as President -- maintaining characteristic "all volunteer" identity.
C & S becomes a Tax-Exempt Public Charity. Golf Tourney of the 20th century gives way to fund-raising Tag Sales.
Community-wide recruitment campaign to enlist more volunteers.
The search continues to find a central location from which to serve the ever-increasing need. Volunteers continue work from home during the year, making food deliveries to clients at their homes. Holiday donations, collections, and distributions housed temporarily in donated space at 345 Boston Post Road. Coat collection donations also taken at Thomas Lee House barn.
To close out the year, the old Police Station on Pennsylvania Avenue serves as a temporary Holiday Store for clients and community donations.
C & S now has 80 volunteers serving the community on so many fronts. To manage and direct these efforts, C & S forms a seven-member Board of Directors. Holiday Store at 17 Hope Street, right near the Pantry at 11 Hope Street. C & S launches updated web site just in time for Holiday season information and shopping.
Years-long efforts by C & S and wide-spread community support result in a joyous culmination. Several months of discussions, planning, and negotiations in 2012 bear fruit. C & S receives from the Town its own dedicated space for The Pantry at 12 Roxbury Road. An Open House on October 25 celebrates a watershed year.
