Building Community and Feeding the Future

A timeline may be meaningless to those who did not experience it. But we have nothing without the individuals and actions that led us to today's Care & Share. Timelines like this highlight dedication, time, skill, persistence, and the unabashed tenacity of volunteers and community.  Here's 1989 to 2012.

1989 to 2012 Highlights

The Beginnings

1989

C & S Founded; Assistance from Chamber of Commerce; Financial Support from Golf Tourney "Jammin Jimmy Open." Donations from individuals, churches, businesses, community groups.

The Children

1990

Making an impact on the identifiably most-in-need for one-time assistance, C & S creates scholarships for Day Campers and Collegians. Childrens' coats distributed.

Stretching the Calendar

1999-2000

C & S extends beyond its established holiday-centric assistance and begins year-round help to families.

Coming of Age

2000

Landmark year of growth -- propelled by expanding community need. C & S matures with organizational changes, marked by enacting formal by-laws and electing a President -- maintaining characteristic "all volunteer" identity.

A New Century

2001

C & S becomes a Tax-Exempt Public Charity. Golf Tourney of the 20th century gives way to fund-raising Tag sales.

New Faces, More Hands

2002

Community-wide recruitment campaign to enlist more volunteers.

The Search

2003

The search continues to find a central location from which to serve the ever-increasing need. Volunteers work from home during the year, making food deliveries to clients at their homes. Holiday donations, collections, and distributions housed temporarily in donated space in Midway Mall.

Holiday Store

2006

To close out the year, the Pennsylvania Avenue Police Station building serves as a temporary Holiday Store for clients and community donations.

Growing to Manage the Demand

2008

C & S now has 80 volunteers serving the community on so many fronts. To manage and direct these efforts, C & S forms a seven-member Board of Directors.

A Monumental Year of Transition

2012

Years-long efforts by C & S and wide-spread community support result in a joyous culmination. Several months of discussions, planning, and negotiations in 2012 bear fruit. C & S receives from the Town its own dedicated space for The Pantry at 12 Roxbury Road. An Open House on October 25 celebrates a watershed year.

And then some . . .

So many adventures . . . so many adventurers
